The Block Museum of Art Welcomes New Board Members: Tara Peters and Kim Vigue

Lisa Corrin, Ellen Philips Katz Executive Director of The Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University, is pleased to announce the appointment of Tara Peters ’93 (’23 P), trustee, and Kim Vigue to the museum’s Board of Advisors. Both bring a wealth of experience in the arts and public service, furthering the museum’s mission as an engine of interdisciplinary inquiry.

Appointed by the executive director, The Block Museum of Art Board of Advisors plays a critical role in supporting the museum’s strategic vision, including collection development, audience engagement, and educational programming. Board members also serve as champions of The Block’s mission through ambassadorship, philanthropy, and mentorship for Northwestern students.

“We are delighted to have Tara and Kim join our Board of Advisors,” said Corrin. “Tara, a university trustee,  brings a lifelong commitment to visual arts and a deep connection to Northwestern, while Kim’s background in advocating for the health and education of Native communities will expand the perspectives and dialogues we foster at The Block. Their combined experience will be invaluable as we continue to shape the museum’s future.”

Tara Peters lives and works in New York as a visual artist. Her work includes abstract and representational oil paintings, as well as collage using literary text and her own writing. She has been featured in solo and group exhibitions, including venues in New York, Paris, Geneva, Seville (Spain), Dresden (Germany), and Havana.  

Peters received a bachelor’s degree from the School of Communication. She double majored in painting and theatre, and she worked closely with the late Ed Paschke.  She currently serves as a University trustee and was as a member of the School of Communication National Advisory Council between 2017–2021  

Peters and her husband, Michael Peterson, were both raised by Wildcats parents, and their youngest son, Beau, graduated as an economics major in Northwestern’s Class of 2023.    

Kim Vigue is the executive director of the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian in Evanston, Illinois. She brings over 20 years of experience advocating for the health and education of Native American communities. As the founder of Wolf River Consulting Group, Vigue has worked with tribal organizations, federal agencies, and nonprofit entities to develop culturally relevant initiatives designed to improve the well-being of Native children, families, and communities. She has extensive experience in addressing critical issues such as suicide prevention, substance abuse, and educational disparities in Indian Country.

Previously, Vigue served as the communications director at the US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Indian Education, where she oversaw communications strategies for its 48,000 students across 183 schools and post-secondary institutions. An enrolled member of the Oneida Nation and a descendant of the Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin, she holds an master of science in anthropology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Visionary Ventures and was recently appointed to the Native American Employment Plan Advisory Council by Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.
