On behalf of all of us at The Block Museum of Art, I am writing to tell you that we are thinking of the health and safety of our campus, our regional community, and the cultural community internationally at this very difficult and uncertain time.
In his recent message to the Northwestern community, President Schapiro reminded us that we all need extra measures of compassion, patience, resilience, flexibility, and creativity at this moment. We have been inspired by the ways that our University and our citizenry are rising to this challenge. We at The Block are striving to do the same, delivering on our promise to serve as a dynamic innovative teaching and learning resource for the campus and community.
The Block is deeply dedicated to its mission and its vision for art to serve as a springboard for dialogue about issues and ideas that matter now. While we aren’t currently able to host these conversations in the galleries of the museum, we look forward to continuing our programming remotely this spring wherever you are. You will find opportunities to engage with us and with art on our website, on social media, and on other digital platforms as we join with colleagues worldwide to #museumfromhome.
We invite you to explore our digital stories, connect with our collection, and keep in touch as we bring our work to your classroom and into your home.
We believe in the power of art as the materiality of human thought. Art encounters, even in a digital space, offer opportunities to help us make sense of what is happening around us, broadening our understanding of who we are in relation to one another. We believe that museums, which bring these art encounters to us, have a unique role to play right now. While this moment brings unprecedented challenges, it also offers new ways to connect and make meaning together. We are inspired by this opportunity and see it as a catalyst for an exciting expansion of our work and its capacity to have impact.
Thank you for your participation and your support,
Lisa Graziose Corrin, Ellen Philips Katz Director, The Block Museum of Art
