The Knowledge of Nobody: Albrecht Dürer’s Melencolia I

On May 13, 2010, Peter Parshall, curator of old master prints at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., discussed the Renaissance artist’s famous engraving and the inclination by contemporary art critics to attribute technical determinism to art forms, like printmaking, rooted in mechinical processes.
